2009 SEASONAL

FLU CLINIC DATES

We are currently out of flu vaccine.

We do not anticipate receiving any additional seasonal flu vaccine this year.

WHEN & WHERE:     The Health Department held a Flu Clinic (Regular seasonal flu vaccine) on Thursday, October 1st at the VFW Hall on Ohio Street in Greenville, Ohio from 8:00am to 1:00pm and from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. There was a second flu clinic at the Health Fair on October 20, 2009 in the Youth Building at the Fairgrounds on Sweitzer Street in Greenville, Ohio from 8:00am-4:30pm

FLU INFORMATION:      The best time to get the influenza vaccine is in October or November.  The influenza season usually peaks in February, but it can peak any time from November through May.  So getting the vaccine in December, or even later, can be beneficial in most years.  Anyone can get influenza.  For most people, it lasts only a few days.  It can cause:  fever, cough, sore throat, headache, chills, muscle aches, and fatigue.

WHO SHOULD GET THE VACCINE:     People 65 years of age and older, people who have long-term health problems, people with certain muscle or nerve damage, people with weakened immune systems, women who will be pregnant during the influenza season and all children 6 months-5 years of age.  Influenza kills about 36,000 people each year in the United States, mostly among the elderly.

FOR MORE INFORMATION:      Please contact Nicole Lefeld at the Darke County Health Department, 937-548-4196 ext. 212.
