FLU CLINIC DATES




Flu vaccinations are given during regular clinic hours: Tuesdays only.
                                      Hours:  8:00 – 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.

December 4-10, 2011, is National Influenza Vaccination Week. Protect yourself, family, and your community by getting your annual Influenza Vaccination!    We will be celebrating this event at the Darke County Health Department Tuesday December 6.  Clinic Hours are 8-10:30, and 2-5pm.  Anyone that receives an Influenza Vaccination on this day will be eligible to enter our door prize drawing.  Light refreshments will be served.  Influenza vaccination is recommended for all persons ages 6 months and older.  Flu-Mist is available for children ages 2-18, some restrictions apply. Cost of vaccination is $20, while supplies last. Traditional Medicare, Medicaid, and cash or check will be accepted.  Sorry, no HMO’s. The Darke County Health Department is located at 300 Garst Ave. in Greenville, beside the park. Please call (937)548-4196 with any questions.

 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Do I need two shots this year (H1N1 and Seasonal)?

The flu shot includes the Seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccines this year.  If this is the first time a child 6 months through 8 years has received a seasonal or H1N1 shot, they will require two shots.  If they only got one shot previously of the H1N1 or seasonal flu and are less than 9 they also will need two shots. 

Who needs the Flu Vaccine?
Everyone 6 months of age and up, especially:
Is there anyone who shouldn't get the flu shot?
There are some persons who should not get the vaccine before contacting the doctor such as :
Can I get the flu from getting the flu shot?

NO.
  The virus in the influenza shot are Inactivated(dead) strands, so you cannot get the flu from a flu shot.  Some minor side effects may include:
How Can I help to prevent the spread of the FLU?
         
 The number one way to help prevent the flu is good, frequent hand washing.  Ensure that you are doing good hand washing after going to the restroom, coughing or sneezing, blowing your nose and remember to always wash your hands before eating. 

 

FLU INFORMATION:      The best time to get the influenza vaccine is in October or November.  The influenza season usually peaks in February, but it can peak any time from November through May.  So getting the vaccine in December, or even later, can be beneficial in most years.  Anyone can get influenza.  For most people, it lasts only a few days.  It can cause:  fever, cough, sore throat, headache, chills, muscle aches, and fatigue.
