In July 2010, the Darke County Health Department received $15,000 in grant money from ODNR - Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention to recycle approximately 12,000 tires.

The Grant provides financial assistance to Ohio’s governments, businesses,
schools, universities, health districts, soil & water conservation districts &
non-profit organizations for the following purposes:
to design a program to promote sustainable scrap tire collection drives
to sponsor a drop off effort during a specified period of time
to engage in targeted clean up events
