In July 2010, the Darke County Health Department received $15,000 in grant money from ODNR - Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention to recycle approximately 12,000 tires.

The tires, located in Wayne Township, Darke County, accumulated over many years and were creating a public health nuisance.  They have been removed and put to beneficial use.

The Tire Amnesty Grant program is sponsored & paid for by the:  

Ohio Department of Natural Resources

Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention

The Grant provides financial assistance to Ohio’s governments, businesses, schools, universities, health districts, soil & water conservation districts & non-profit organizations for the following purposes:


Please recycle your old tires!  They can be used for a variety of products:

  • Paving material for roads
  • Playground surfaces
  • Swings & playground equipment
  • Athletic field turf
  • Running tracks
  • Interlocking patio bricks
  • Roofing shingles
  • Parking curbs
  • Speed bumps
  • Wheel chocks
  • Soaker hoses
  • Livestock feeders
  • Planters
  • Landscape mulch
  • Anti-slip mats
